Chamber Music Spectacular features two of the most iconic and monumental chamber music works ever written, Mozart’s Gran Partita for 13 Winds and the String Octet by Romanian composer and violinist George Enescu.
On first hearing Mozart’s piece de resistance, rival composer Salieri commented, ‘Filled with such longing, such unfulfillable longing. It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.’
Enescu’s String Octet is 'a vast work of epic proportions and grand designs that deploys the luxuriant octet ensemble in a consistently layered polyphony of true chamber textures... a truly technicolor fantasia of late Romantic character’ (Kai Christiansen).
Chamber music on this scale is a rarity and a treasure for all those who experience it.
Mozart Serenade in B-Flat Major, K. 361/370a Gran Partita
Enescu String Octet in C major, Op. 7
