About the event

In November, the New Zealand String Quartet will perform across Aotearoa for our 2021 National Tour. Immerse yourself in astounding beauty, inspire your senses, and fire your curiosity through four centuries of string quartet music…

“…superbly responsive, technically sharp, performances…a full, satisfying, musical meal…” John Button, The Dominion Post (Wellington)

Now in its 34th season, the New Zealand String Quartet has established an international reputation for its insightful interpretations, compelling communication, and dynamic performing style. The Quartet is known for its imaginative programming and for its powerful connection with audiences of all kinds.

In Programme 1, the warmth of Haydn’s ‘Sunrise’ Quartet is the perfect overture to the tui calls of the Marlborough Sounds that inspired Gareth Farr’s Te Koanga. Ligeti’s stimulating String Quartet No. 1, ‘Métamorphoses nocturnes’, brings contrasts of light and dark, before the ever-popular Dvořák’s String Quartet Op. 51.
