About the event
The carefully curated programme begins with Gareth Farr‘s Te Kōanga, a celebration of life and regeneration that echoes the Sanctuary’s lush flora and fauna. Haydn‘s Opus 64, No.5, famously known as “The Lark”, follows, with its melodies that soar like the bird, echoing the vibrant avian life that thrives within the Sanctuary’s protected haven.
Gillian Whitehead‘s Poroporoaki pays homage to the cultural and natural heritage of Aotearoa, weaving a sonic tapestry that bridges the past and present. The concert concludes with Dvořák‘s String Quartet no. 12, opus 96, the beloved “American Quartet“, whose sweeping melodies evoke the spirit of exploration and adventure, mirroring the diverse ecosystems of our country.
Sounds of the Sanctuary promises an extraordinary audience experience, celebrating our breathtaking natural world and the power of music to connect with the beauty that surrounds us.
Please note: Weather dependent, this event will occur in the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary’s Glade Classroom. This is a 15-20 minute walk into the Sanctuary – please arrive with plenty of time to travel in and out to the performance which will be starting at the advertised time. If the weather doesn’t play game, we will be in the Visitor’s Centre – a short wander from the carpark! We will communicate to all ticket holders with time to spare – please check your email before heading to the event, as reception is patchy.
