Student ensemble success continues

In our last Q-notes issue we highlighted the success in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest of several student ensembles that attended the Queen’s Birthday Chamber Music Weekend. Two groups that participated in the course made it through to the semi-finals at the Auckland Town Hall on 2 August. We’re delighted to announce that 16 Strings (string quartet) then took the top spot in the final on 3 August, becoming the overall winners of the contest for 2019. Congratulations! The Wellington-based group, violinists Toloa Faraimo and Shanita Sunguswan, violist Peter Gjelsten and cellist Emma Ravens, performed music by Erwin Schulhoff. Radio NZ Concert’s Clarissa Dunn spoke to them immediately after the exciting announcement.
